Morally ambiguous characters – characters whose behavior discourages readers from identifying them as purely good or purely evil – are at the heart of many works of literature. In Crime and Punishment, Raskolnikov perhaps fills the role as this character, yet there are others just as strong. Choose a morally ambiguous character that plays a pivotal role in the novel. Then, write an essay exploring how the character is purposefully written as morally ambiguous and how his or her ambiguity is significant to the plot as a whole. AVOID MERE PLOT SUMMARY. Unlike and ICE, you must use direct reference to the novel with correct in-text citations following MLA or APA format. You MUST type the essay as double spaced. The essay should be 2-3 pages in length.
